Salon owner helps kids with cancer

Sometimes the beauty in a salon is visible when you walk in — for example, if a salon uses Cerriotti Salon Furniture, the beautiful salon furniture made in Italy and sold by the Regal Hair Salon supply company.

But sometimes the most beauty is hidden inside the people who run the salon.

Ljupka Arsovska, who owns Âme Salon in Englewood, New Jersey, is that kind of a person — beautiful on the inside, with a good heart. She has made it her mission to help children with cancer.

Arsovska, who is a native of Macedonia, cut off her 14-inch braid to raise awareness for a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to medical treatment. Her donation became the first of 15 that her salon has collected since it opened in July.

According to Locks of Love, which collects hair and makes wigs for people suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions, it takes six to 10 ponytails to make one wig.

In her native country, Arsovska operated a charity that raised money for people with cancer, North Jersey reported. She worked a hair and makeup stylist in Macedonia and operated several salons.

Arsovska was further inspired to help cancer patients when her son was born two years ago and

maternity ward faced the pediatric oncology ward, so she could see the children and families  that were going through the ordeal of having cancer.

She still maintains a connection to helping cancer patients in her native country, and recently set up a GoFundMe campaign for a single father there who is having trouble paying for his

9-year-old daughter’s cancer treatment, Arsovska said. As of last week, the fund had reached $3,000 of its $10,000 goal.

Arsovska’s salon offers free haircuts to people donating their hair to charity. She also provides styling consultations to children with hair loss conditions.

Balayage trend will continue in 2018

What’s new in salons for 2018? It’s difficult to know for sure, but there are some hair coloring techniques that were popular in 2017 and that are expected to remain strong trends this year as well.

One trend that’s expected to continue to be hot is balayage hair coloring.

Balayage is a word that comes from the French “to sweep.”According to StyleLounge,  in the balayage method of coloring hair, dark pieces are left on the bottom to create dimension and a more natural look. This technique makes it look like there are natural highlights in the hair.

The transition is more natural and it is less maintenance than an ombre, but Color Style Guide says the ombre is also here to stay. Dark brunettes should consider a bronze transition from the mid-lengths of their hair to ends to give their hairstyle pop.

Subtle balayage highlights mean maintaining your original hair base while dying your hair lighter at the tips. It’s a way to lighten your hair without the commitment and maintenance of bleaching to blonde.

Brunettes, for example, may want to consider caramel-colored tips. It is a universally appealing shade that compliments all skin tones. Caramel looks good when paired with dark roots, and also works with blonde shades. Orange balayage also highlights work well on brunettes, as orange creates a nice contrast with dark hair, and blondes might consider wearing a feminine rose shade.

Relaxers loosen tightly-coiled hair

If you have very tightly-coiled hair that you want to straighten, you may want to consider getting professional help with relaxing your natural curl.

Many people choose to relax their curly hair for easier maintenance and styling. It is important that it is done correctly by a hair care professional, to prevent damage to your hair and scalp.

According to, the chemical process can cause scalp irritation and hair breakage or hair loss if it is done incorrectly. Scalp burns can lead to infection or bald patches.

All relaxers contain chemicals and can cause damage, even those that are labeled “organic” or natural.

Relaxers work by breaking down protein bonds within the hair shaft. Lye relaxers contain sodium hydroxide, a caustic chemical. No-lye relaxers are milder, but can still cause damage to the hair and scalp if used incorrectly.

Relaxers come in super, regular and mild strengths; choosing which one to use depends on the tightness of the coils you are trying to relax. If you use a relaxer that is too strong or leave it on your hair too long, it can cause permanent damage, as can using a relaxer soon after you have had another chemical-based hair service, like color, or if you apply relaxer on already-relaxed hair.

Since your relaxed hair will be weaker and dry, it’s important to use regular conditioning treatments to help prevent breakage. Your hair care professional can guide you through the best suggested after-care procedures that will allow you to maintain your relaxed look and healthy hair at the same time.

To have your hair relaxation procedure performed properly, you should seek out a high-quality salon. Regal USA supplies the highest-caliber salons with the best-quality furniture and the stylist tools they need to provide clients with top hair care solutions. Brotox… with a brooo

So, yes. Yup. Mm hmm. And another one there, and another one there, and another one there…

Wrinkles, gentlemen. Your rugged, cowboyish wrinkles are no longer appealing to anyone, apparently. Your face, as it is, is no longer nice to look at. The map of your life on your face is not anything anyone wants to read. So, what to do?

Brotox. Botox for bros. Aesthetic procedures among men are on the rise according to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Now, some of the procedures are medically necessary, or are at least taking place for the correction of a medical issue. Others though…

There’s an uptick on men having botox procedures done before they take their vows. Male aesthetic procedures have now become part of the Groom’s pre-wedding preparation. A recent article on spelled out a few of these trends, saying “Procedures for men were up 63 percent between 2010 and 2015. The most common treatments, particularly in grooms, are injectables like Botulinum Toxin (Brotox) and a similar drug called Xeomin (Xeo-man). Most men get injections in their forehead, frown area and crows feet — exactly the same “problem areas” women choose to treat — and many of them are flocking to their plastic surgeons office for men’s grooming treatments in the weeks leading up to their weddings.

It is fascinating that men are seeing similar aesthetic problem areas that women have traditionally focused on. Sociologically, what is this saying about the modern American male? Does he now associate the body’s physical response to aging with something that needs to be corrected? Is it a product of the self image conjured from today’s appearance-obsessed culture?

The article continues to shed more light on the men’s trend, reporting that “injectables aren’t the only beauty treatment men are trying out in preparation for their suit-wielding walk down the aisle… more male patients (are) coming in for aesthetic treatments such as neurotoxins, fillers, and light laser treatments in the months leading up to their weddings. According to the New York Times, “Guybrows” and “Manlycures” are also gaining popularity among grooms. Since millennial men are getting married later in life and then having their wedding photos splashed all over social media, it makes sense that they want to put in some added effort to look their best”.
